Feeling poorly while at Uni? Here's some top tips!

As I mentioned in my last post I am not feeling my best so thought hey ho I'll post about how to take care of yourself at uni!

Without your mom's chicken broth and loving arms, here are some top tips and recommendations from me to help get rid of the boogie monster (wowww great pun Beth). The first month of uni is the worst! Everyone got the dreaded 'freshers flu' including me. The lecture halls are filled will ill students coughing and sneezing everywhere! So here it goes.

1) Beechams Podwer drinks

The blackcurrant ones taste like warm Ribena! They are so good and really do help.

2) A packet of  pocket tissues

You will need these in your lectures to stop you sniffling, and they are always handy!

3)Berocca

Vitamin C powder shots if you like they will help increase your immune system. If you don't like the taste then you can have a glass of orange juice everyday.

4) Cold and flu tablets

These are great they really do help with the congestion and help ease that pounding headache.

*you can get the above form ALDI for cheep and it works just as well!

5) Hot water bottle

Its always nice to have a hot water bottle to cuddle when your feeling chilly and ill.

6) Vitamin water

Yes it is a little pricey but trust me you need all the extra vitamins you can get and it tastes great and refreshing!

7) Your Favourite Films, books or TV shows.

I put some of my own favourites in. Vampire Diaries, Game of Thrones, Sleeping Beauty and the Harry Potter series. Use these to relax with your hot water bottle and a cup of Beechams

 8) Vicks vapour rub

I love this stuff it always reminds me of my nan when I was ill she always used to use this. Try putting some in boiling water and breath in the steam(It will be hot so be careful).

9) Pamper Night!

Have a bath if you have one. Where as I don't so instead I take a nice hot shower and use all my favourite products such as my lush shower scrub and face masks. The steam from the hot water is also great to help ease congestion.

I hope you found this useful! Tell me what you do when your ill and what are your top tips!

Beth

I could do hauls, trips out,and show you Chester University and the city? Let me know what you think in the comments, recommendations  and feedback would be helpful!

21st Birthday Surprises!

In The Week.

Tuesday night Holly told me that she was treating me to a spa day after work on Wednesday  with a massage included! After a cheeky 4 hour shift we headed out to the Mercure Hotel here in Chester I recommend a visit it was lovely!Unfortunately they did mess up the massage by not having anyone in however they did give us a free day to use the spa facility the next day!So we just relaxed in the pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room for 3 hours with a nice cool cider at the end!
The next surprise was being treated to a meal at Hickorys! Another place I recommend a visit to if your in Chester is was lush! They had burnt the last of the peach cobbler which I had ordered and for an apology they gave us a bottle of wine and our puddings on the house!Excellent customer service.
Holly&Harry
Holly and I went back and used the spa the next day!I had a neck and shoulder massage for an hour!Perfect two days of relaxation! The boys then joined us afterwords for a swim!
Holly, Harry and Alex had been planning this all week and I didn't have a clue.Yes they'd joke about taking me to McDonald's or KFC.

 The Weekend!
The secret had been kept from me for months! Finally I find out! Drum roll please!!!!!! It was a night in London and tickets to see Wicked! I was so excited! On the morning of my birthday I opened all my presents which I love thank you all! Alex and I made our way down to London. The four hour car journey was entertaining singing all the way down (as you do). We made it to London and went straight to the Apollo Victoria. That magical green sign was a sight to see!

The show was absolutely amazing I loved every minute of it. The hotel was right in the middle of London. A nice big bed and T.V. Watching T.V is a luxury for uni students. Waking up in London is one of the best things ever waking up to busy streets outside and being able to relax inside!

The day ended with a lush bubble bath and the drive home to relax with a cuppa and watch films because I'm feeling poorly.

Chop Chop Chop!

Whatttt!?

The title sounds a bit dodgy! Basically I've finally had my hair cut after five months of building up the courage to cut it. I've had long hair for two years now so I thought why not? I gave it the chop!

Before and After!

As a student at Chester you get amazing offers from local businesses in the Chester area! I chose Saks. The best choice ever! As soon as I walked in I was greeted warmly. They took my coat and they even offered me something to drink! 5 Stars for great customer service! They use all the best brands L'Oreal, GHD and Kerastase. On your first visit you get a £10 off voucher so it came to £18 in the end for a cut and finish! I even left with two more £10 off vouchers! Go in training day (wednesday) and get a superb haircit fir £10! The staff were super friendly and I will definitely visit again!

How to Make Your Room a Home!

"Home Sweet Home"

The truth is you will miss home. I did and I lived away from home for two years before I came to uni, but I seemed to miss it even more once I got here. A couple ways to get rid of those feelings is to make your room as cosy and homely as possible! Any links on products I like within a student budget ill include in the text.

1)Pictures and Posters
You may think that it would make the situation worse, but it doesn't seeing the faces of your loved ones and remembering the memories captured will bring a smile to you face. Pictures will also cover-up those ghastly white walls. Make a little collage! Also get some frames and scatter them around your room.I love these!

2) Shelf Clutter

Now when I say clutter I don't mean on the floor and everywhere. My definition of clutter in a homely setting is neat clutter. So basically any ornaments that you have on your bookshelves and bedside tables at home bring them with you.

3)Wall Clutter

Yes, yes I've invented another word. It's a thing though! You'll grab loads of things freshers week calendars, flyers and more! Bring things from home like tickets and events you've attended like my Birmingham Blues ticket I also have my Bombay Bicycle Club ticket! Hanging these up will also help get rid of those un-homely  walls.

4) Home Made Items

My sister made me this beautiful blanket I put it at the end of my bed it looks cosy and feels like home!

5)Cushions Galore!

Pile cushions on your bed maybe even add a bean bag to your floor if you have room! It will make your room so cosy (over use of the word?).

6) Fairy Lights/Candles

Were not supposed to have them (SHHHH :P ) but they just create a mood that is so relaxing. Get some that may remind you of home my favourite is cinnamon and apple.   I love the Christmas ones!.Try Fairy lights like these beautiful!

7) Dim Light

Yes I know it's a weird one but the harsh light is really bright to put it bluntly. Keep your lamps and fairy lights on.

My Valentine

                                        All You Need Is Love!

Thought I'd start this post off with a lyric from my favourite Beatles song. This post doesn't fit into any category of mine (not really) I just thought I'd share what I did on valentines day. You guys can share with me what you did in the comments below I'd love to hear!
Rose and rose petals!

Early Morning Start!

Yes I know 10 o'clock may not be an 'early start' for most of you but it is for me! Why you may ask did I have to get up so early?Work yes! Yes I did work Valentines day, a full 6 hours :/ But that didn't stop me from having a fantastic day!The morning started with cuddles (love e'm) followed by a bouquet of roses, a bottle of rose and a beautiful  Pandora charm all given to me by Alex. In return I got him two picture frames a massive packet of Percy pigs (his obsession) and a smart dress shirt to wear out later.

The Evening

Alex booked us a table at Ristorante Sergio! A one of a kind Italian restaurant in the heart of Chester I recommend if your ever in Chester to go an visit the food is excellent and not to pricey so I would say it's 'student friendly'. We shared a Starter of 'Bruschetta alla Toscana' which was amazing, all home made bread and so many flavours in one slice! Magnifico! For a main I tackled the Cannelloni which is chicken stuffed in pasta with spinach in a cheese sauce soooo nice! Alex demolished a dish of Penne Arabiata which looked delicious but I didn't try any as he said it was quite spicy and I don't do spicy! And for dolci or pudding (desert for my American readers) we shared a bowl of strawberry, chocolate and vanilla gelato which even the picture will make your mouth water! It all came to £44 with a bottle of wine included!I'd say that's an absolute bargain me and Alex split the bill straight down the middle.I believe that valentines day isn't all about the girl (as its advertised) its about celebrating the love you have for each other, so you should both treat one another! The night ended perfectly and is probably the best valentines day I've probably ever had.
Alex and I please excuse the hair it needs a cut

******If your ever in the beautiful Chester and want the full Italian experience I would definitely recommend Sergio's the atmosphere was lovely! Sergio's Main page!

Tell me what you did on Valentines day in the comments!

Beth

February Favourites!

                           "Love is in the air"

Seeing as February is the month of "Love" I thought it would be the perfect time to do my first ever favourites!

Lancome La Vie est belle 30ml

LancĂ´me La vie est belle eau de parfum 30ml
Source
This is my absolute favourite fragrance! I know its not in a "student budget" but it was a gift from Alex (so cute). Everywhere I go I always get complements on how I smell. I wear it so much my collogues started to recognise me by my smell "Is Beth in today? I can smell her" "Is Beth around" lol. It lasts all day and even last for a night out so you don't have to take the bottle with you! Also the bottles really cute. The price can range from £44 to £57 for the bigger bottle.
*would have put my own picture up but I've almost finished my bottle!

New Look Tangle Teaser

This ones in the student budget price range it was originally £4, but I got it with my discount when I was working there so I got it for £2. It has been a life saver on those windy days crossing campus. It fits in my bag and doesn't take up any room. Its also perfect to fit on your clutch bag on a night out. It really doesn't hurt when you brush your hair wet or dry! I highly recommend getting one.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Chubby Stick

Love the colour of this! Its not red but its not pink its right in-between perfect! Its pen shaped tip makes it really easy to apply.I do find that it is a bit glossy than I prefer but I fix that by blotting my lips with a tissue and then holding tissue over my lips and lightly dusting my transparent powder over the top!It has a nice smell to quite refreshing I think.

My Real Techniques Brushes

Love, Love, Love these! Saved the best for last. I use these so much hence the state of them (they need a wash). The big one (on the bottom)is the powder brush. This brush is heaven to use it's soooooo soft! And it doesn't lose its softness either I've washed this brush a couple of times and its the same.

The other brush is the expert face brush. I use it for my foundation and concealer (I will buy their concealer brush soon!). Its perfect its quite stable, the bristle don't bend under pressure so you can really blend in your foundation. The only thing is that its a bit on the small side. However, I may just have a really big face.
You Can buy the expert face brush in a set Here!

Food Glorious Food!

The Shop to go?

ALDI is your saviour at uni! With it's cheap non-branded substitutes you can save pounds!Keep in mind that me and Alex do shop together so this shop did come to around £60 with the vodka included! Normally, when I did my own bi-weekly shop it would come to about £30!

Top Tips

  • When you do buy your meats such as chicken and mince take them out separately and wrap them in tin foil and freeze. This saves it from going off and being unusable.
  • It is cheaper to buy a whole chicken and cooked and then strip it then by the breasts.
  • Look for the ultra heat treated milk at 95p a carton you can buy loads and keep it in your cupboard for months. Don't worry it tastes completely normal
  • Try freezing your bread so it lasts longer just take out slices that you need and toasting.
  • If your living with a big group of people its a lot cheaper to do group meals maybe once or twice a week.
  • If you can talk with your house mates like I did talk about buying certain things. We all bought massive bottles of washing up liquid and were still using it! TOILET PAPER is a must you have to buy it in bulk you will find that you house will run out so quickly. Many a times I've had to nick a roll from the boys house next door.

Meal ideas?

Anything with potatoes! Jacket, boiled or mashed its quick, cheap and easy. Pair it with some frozen veg and some of the chicken with some gravy to top it off. Curry is another cheap meal grab a jar from ALDI for around 75p add some chicken and some rice maybe some cheap nan or a pitta bread which is cheaper (and healthier).Any type of pasta is easy to make and cheap again with a bag of pasta from ALDI for 29p and a jar for 75p where can you go wrong! If you have left overs. Fancy a Mexican night? The ALDI fajita kit is great! Buy some diced chicken and peppers with some onion share this with another house mate and split the cost!
